Junior league swings into action
Action cricket is an exciting team game that lasts for about 70 minutes and this year's junior league starts this Friday.
It combines fun, fitness and competition, and its simplicity allows youngsters aged nine to 13 to play for the Lowveld Mambas.
Every year the South African Indoor Cricket Federation and Action Sports hold various interprovincial cricket tournaments (IPT) around the country and this year’s tournament will take place in Centurion.
Teams are selected per region and on a trial basis. This is normally a few months prior to the tournament which takes place at the end of June. These players are selected from the arenas within that region. They then practise as hard as they can before the event. At this tournament the provincial teams compete against all other participating provinces to determine the champions. Lowveld normally take one u/10, two u/11, one u/12, one/13 and one u/14 team to the IPTs.
“Cricketers need to play in the Lowveld league to be considered for the IPT. At the end of the tournament, All Stars get selected and this is a great way to get recognition. We need parents to encourage kids to play and even schools to get involved,” says coach of the juniors, Eric Grimaldi.
Registration starts at 17:00 and the games get underway at 17:30.
