Van Wettens paints the town pink
This year's nite race once again provided the opportunity for more than 700 runners, young and old, to enjoy a great family atmosphere and running pleasure.
In the open-race male division at the Van Wettens Nite Race, Folavio Sehohle of Nedbank Running Club LVCC led the pack and finished in first place with a phenomenal time of 32 minutes and 49 seconds.
In second place and hot on his heels was Ntutuko Maseko from the same club. Johardt van Heerden finished in third with a time of 34 minutes four seconds.
This year’s nite race once again provided the opportunity for more than 700 runners, young and old, to enjoy a great family atmosphere and running pleasure.
This was the 11th year that the event, organised by Nedbank Running Club LVCC was held and also the first of the year on the Athletics South Africa running calendar in the Lowveld.
This year Van Wettens used the opportunity to highlight its support of breast-cancer awareness and had its truck with pink branding on display. The race attracted a wide spectrum of participants, from parents walking with kids in the five-kilometre division to serious runners testing their legs and stamina early in the season with the gruelling 10-kilometre race. Many companies and schools entered teams.
The five-kilometre run, other than the more serious 10 kilometre one, was not timed, as it was only for fun. The route is a challenging five-kilometre loop through the streets of Steiltes with the start and finish being at LVCC where great food and drinks were on offer.
Organisers received loads of compliments about the event, and participants felt safe as Hi-Tech Security patrolled the streets and the marshals of Nedbank Running Club LVCC showed them the way.
Nontokoza Dlamini won the open women’s division with a time of 42 minutes and 43 seconds. In second place was Allison Hay with a time of 46 minutes and 57 seconds followed by Philile Semelane who finished in 49 minutes, five seconds.
