Local athlete will make his international debut

"Here I am, just a 20-year-old kid who is still a junior and loves the sport of modern pentathlon.

“I will make my international debut in the first world cup in Sarasota, Florida.”

Former Hoërskool Nelspruit learner, Pietie Oosthuizen (20) posted this on his Facebook page prior to the 2015 Modern Pentathlon World Cup taking place on February 20 to 22. More than 230 pentathletes from 40 countries will convene to compete in the first world cup to be held in the USA.

The Modern Pentathlon remains one of the oldest and most revered of Olympic events, where pentathletes are considered among the most prestigious and elite due to the physical stamina and strong mental discipline required to succeed. It comprises five sports: swimming, fencing, equestrian showjumping, running and laser-pistol shooting.

The 2015 Modern Pentathlon World Cup #1 is the second of four modern pentathlon events to be held in Sarasota-Bradenton
from 2014 to 2016.
