Series leader continues winning

JP Jung continued his winning streak on Saturday when he finished first in second leg of the Mpumalanga cross-country series at Uplands. Jung had also emerged victorious during the first leg of the three-leg series.

He led the pack, finishing his five laps of the course in a time of 01.06:53. Jung was followed by Justin Victor 01.15:18 and Marcel Eloff 01.08:53 who only completed four laps in the senior male category.

The u/23 men race was won by Johnny Diedericks in a time of 01.07:41 with Divan van der Berg with 01.14:13. Emily Clarke was the fastest senior female with a time of 01.16:19.

The race started very fast with riders zooming past on the dirt road before taking on steep inclines and rocky, uneven terrain which tested the riders’ technical level and fitness.

The riders doing laps were just as fast. Franco Pelser 54:32 was the fastest junior male, followed by Andreas Kuhn 54:34 and Liam de Klerk 54:52. Their female counterpart Sarah McQueen finished in a time of 01.00:01.

Dirk Lourens 58:05, Mark Meyer 59:12 and Johan Moller 01.01:32 were the three fastest sub-veteran males with veteran riders Casper Badenhorst 58:53, Charles Lloyd 01.01:24 and Craig Randall 01.01:50 finishing in-between.

The Sproggs and Nippers rode a different course and children as young as five years old participated. Theirs was less steep but presented them with extremely sharp turns.

The winners in each category was, over three laps Jooste Coetzee 24:52 (sprog male) and Ainsli de Beer 26:17 (sprog female) and over two laps Luan Snyman 16:44 (nipper male), Megan Wiehman 20:06 (nipper female).
