Bodybuilders on their way to Slovenia
Two Lowveld bodybuilders will be in action at the International Bodybuilding Fitness Federation's (IBFF) World Championship in Koper, a city in southwestern Slovenia.
Hazyview’s own brawny queen, Tessa Els, has been selected for the team that will represent her country at the IBFF World Champs. She secured her spot in the team when she won silver in the miss figure category this past weekend at the IBFF Africa launch at Vodacom World, Midrand. “I just want to take a minute and thank Arnie Williams and Tracy Meyjes for the amazing show and the super awesome event. I have really enjoyed it and I know that IBFF will grow. It is such a privilege for me to be part of this family and I am so proud to be part of the team. I am very excited about the trip, but I won’t be able to do it without a lot of support or someone who would like to step on board.” According to Els, getting her physique in the best shape it has ever been, is all thanks to her coach, Craig Brown.
Byron Chemaly (26), a former pupil of Hoërskool Rob Ferreira, also competed at Vodaworld. He bagged two medals in the fitness model and bodybuilding under 1,72 centimetres categories respectively.
“I have a great passion for what I do and due to the long hours I spend at the gym and the amount of food I eat, competing in a competition like this one, and coming home with two silver medals are very rewarding. I could not have done this without my coach Nick Robert.”
He is currently training for the Rossi Grand Prix at the end of May. “The show of the year, according to Chemaly, South Africa’s biggest competition, is the WBFF 1. “It takes place in June and it is definitely the biggest show of the year. My goal is to qualify for a pro-card to compete internationally.”
