Rotarians hit the greens to raise funds
Zipping off in golf carts, Rotarians, friends of Rotary and golfers had a jolly start to the Rotary Club of White River Golf Day on May 6.
Players competed in a better-ball format, four-ball competition on the lush greens of the White River Golf Club.
They received their scorecards, along with a luminescent yellow ball which would be used to determine the winners. Many players jokingly griped about how easily the coloured balls could be lost, but kept a hawk’s eye on the vital piece of equipment.
The organisers were very happy with the turnout and sunny weather and say golfers enjoyed taking to the greens to support a worthy cause. The Rotary Anns also helped out and handed out boerewors rolls at the Rotary Halfway House to energise players for the next leg of the competition.
During the evening’s prize-giving, not even load-shedding could dampen the spirits and a variety of prizes were handed out. John Robson and Brian Kitto came in first place, with Alan South and André Domon in second place and Lionel Simoes and George McLaren in third.
Rotary would like to thank all the sponsors who contributed to make the day a big success, including SPAR Lowveld Distribution Centre, who donated platters of food and a cooler bag for each player.
The funds raised will be used in Rotary’s various charity projects around the area such as Camp Quality, the Kruger Park outing for senior citizens, the Masoyi Special Care Centre and the Mapagama School.
