Players enjoy a day of sportmanship
More than 60 players enjoyed the sunny Lowveld weather during the Legogote Tournament at the White River Bowls Club last weekend.
Sixteen teams from all over the Lowveld, as well as two teams from Swaziland and one from Limpopo competed in this annual two-day competition.
The great sportmanship of players extended to the hall, where the group feasted before the prize-giving.
The Nelspruit team of Ben and Dianne Enslin and John and Nanne van Eeden received the Legogote trophy, with White River’s Beryl Biggs, Mike Mannion, Lettie Ambrosius and John Poole ending in second place.
The latter team also scored an admirable eight – equivalent to golf’s hole-in-one.
Two of LVCC’s teams won the third and fourth spots: Brian and Marilyn Coulson and Greg and Lanie Anderson, as well as Johan and Toekie Botha, Len Beattie and Maureen Steinbrucker. Toekie Botha also won the ladies’ spider.
Every team received a prize, ranging from wine and water bottles to vouchers and garden lights, which were received among broad smiles and jokes.
A raffle was held, with three players leaving with one of two hampers and a gorgeous photo print of a lion.
The Lowveld SPCA also received a cash donation to aid it in its good work.
The bowlers enjoyed the tournament and thanked the organisers for a well-conducted event, while the organisers thanked the various clubs for their support throughout the year.
