Young gymnasts impress with their performances in Pretoria

Four of the HGC’s Level 4 gymnasts participated in the Interclub Competition at Hoërskool Eldoraigne in Pretoria this past weekend for levels 4 to 8, each coming home with more than just a participation medal.

Mia Vos received gold for her outstanding performance in the under-10 category, while Claudia Wallace was awarded silver.

Azme Chiloane and Leane Wallace walked away with an impressive silver and bronze respectively, in the category for under-12 gymnasts.

“We did exceptionally well in the cold conditions and unexpected winter rain,” said coach Lynn Wallace.

At this competition the gymnasts each received a medal in the final points category. This was calculated by a panel of judges according to the gymnasts performances. Gold, silver and bronze medals were earned.

This Saturday, these and other HGC gymnasts will participate in their first Mpumalanga NGA in Mbombela. Here a team of gymnasts will be selected according to their final score.

They then qualify for the second trails in Ermelo. If they succeed at these trials, they will head through to nationals will go at Eldoraigne, Pretoria from October 7 to 10.

“This competition is much more strict and the gymnasts must work hard and put in a lot more effort than usual,” said Wallace. “They need lots of determination and hard work and self-discipline.”
