Titans makes Lowveld their home for training camp
The Unlimited Titans, the defending Momentum One-Day Cup champions, will start their 2015/16 quest for domestic domination with an extended training camp in Mbombela from September 21 to 27.
They will also host the Knights in the annual Ehlanzeni Cup at Uplands College.
“The training camp as well as the Ehlanzeni Cup in Mbombela against the central or another franchise will be annual fixtures until 2018 to maximise the preparations of the franchise,” said Jacques Faul, CEO of the Unlimited Titans.
Faul made the announcement about the exciting new additions to the Titans’ cricketing calendar at Casterbridge Hollow on Wednesday.
He said the preseason events will serve to extend the footprint of the Titans to other northern provinces.
It will also be aimed at sharing skills and expertise with allies who form part of the Titans cricketing family.
He thanked Uplands College for partnering with the team. “We are looking for sponsors to help host a Franchise Sixes at Skukuza. This is a wonderful concept that will see franchise teams, like the Dolphins, for the first time in the Kruger National Park.
“This will further stimulate top-franchise cricket in the Lowveld.”
“The announcement of this three-year venture is done to underline our commitment to the development and growth of the game to the northern territories of South Africa,” said John Wright, president of the Northerns Cricket Union.
“Seeing icons emerge from the northern provinces and making this a hotbed of cricketing activity, are part of our vision at the Northern Cricket Union and the Titans,” he added.
“It is a privilege to be part of the announcement at Casterbridge Hollow,” said Craig Nel, chairman of the Franchise forum.
“Some of the best bowlers in South Africa have emerged from areas like Phalaborwa and Limpopo. Dale Steyn and Marchant de Lange have already left their mark on South African cricket.”
