Bishop makes biggest splash at interhouse swimming

The four houses of Uplands College challenged each other to see who could make the biggest splash at the annual interhouse swimming meeting on January 20.

With a battle cry and the banging of drums Bishop House in their red, College in their green (with a stuffed rhino doll travelling through the crowd), Founders in their blue and Goss in their yellow entered the pool area.

The technique of some of there swimmers was truly something to see and spectators remarked on the intense training needed to achieve this.  Although some participants lagged behind their faster peers, their determination to finish and the encouragement of their houses was evident.

Bishop proved to be the top house overall, winning with 587 points. College was second, Founders third and Goss fourth. Bishop also had the best girls results, while Founders had the best results among the boys.

The members of Bishop House managed to gather 26 gold medals and broke seven records, while College had 15 golds and broke 4 records. Founders House won 14 golds and Goss had 9 golds.

At the end of the swimming meeting, with body paint fading and few pupils’ skin already tinged red from all their fun in the sun, the top swimmers of the day was announced.

Tamryn Hawley of Bishop House was named senior Victrix Ludorum, with Kayla Schefermann of the same house named her junior counterpart. Landau van Rooyen of Bishop was senior Victor Ludorum and Julio Helena of College the junior Victor Ludorum.
