Hundreds of athletes, pupils and supporters will make their way into the town of Lydenburg to take part in this year’s Mediclinic Lowveld Interhigh on Saturday.

The participating schools include Lowveld High School, Rob Ferreira, Bergvlam, Barberton, Lydenburg, Nelspruit and Penryn College.

Maudus Banda and Fezeka Malinga, two of Bergvlam’s finest will represent their school at this event.
Banda, who is 17 years old, jumped his personal best this past weekend at Lowveld High School registering a jump of
7,44 metres.

Over the past two weeks Banda has been nursing a hamstring injury but this did not prevent him from registering a new personal best.

The hard-working athlete plans to jump even further at Interhigh next weekend and possibly winning the best field athlete trophy. “Representing my school means being proud of my school and achieving great things for it. I like this quote that says don’t ever let your competition train harder than you.”

Fellow schoolmate, Malinga, is also looking forward to this year’s most important event on the schools sporting calendar.

The 14-year-old represented the province before; her personal record is 10,38 metres in shot put.

“I am healthy and in good shape, sport is a fun activity that keeps me entertained, together with my friends,” she said.
