Ladies take over the greens for annual tournament
A group of fun-loving lady golfers took over the White River Country Club during the first half of the week for the 10th annual Ladies Classic.
The group of over 100 competitors hailed from all over South Africa and even from Canada, England and Australia and the organisers went all out to make this milestone event a memorable occasion.
On the first day of the tournament, there were witches, angels, minions and an assortment of colourfully dressed characters walking around and teams voted on the best dressed pairs and best decorated golf carts.
While waiting to tee-off each day, players could enjoy a massage by a therapist from Wellness & Beauty at Oliver’s in the hall. Day one of the three-day tournament consisted of a four ball alliance with a twist, followed by a fashion show by Beautiful Me Golf, which showcased the latest in golf apparel. After the prize-giving ceremony, the ladies enjoyed ballroom dancing and
entertainment presented by Alan South.
Following a full day of serious golf for the White River Ladies Classic trophy on Tuesday, golfers dressed up according to the theme of ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow’ for drinks on the patio, a gala dinner and fun cabaret.
The prize-giving was held on Wednesday after lunch. The winners of the tournament, as well as the runners-up were announced and a variety of funny and interesting prizes were handed out.
Each year the tournament chooses a charity to support through a raffle and auction. The White River-based Books in Homes, which strives to provide children with affordable books and classroom aids, had the opportunity to showcase their work. The organisation has seen great success with their work and has received orders from various countries looking to teach children English through the ingenious books. Stories include fables and Africanised versions of famous fairy tales.
The organisers were quite impressed with the turnout, the wonderful spirit of competitors and the effort they put into their outfits and decorations. They would also like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who contributed everything from cake and champagne to prizes and sound systems.
