Action cricket players are ready for interprovincial action
"You can play indoor cricket whenever and whatever the weather. If you've got the talent, you will get the opportunity to play," said Eric Grimaldi, head of action cricket in the province.
The capping ceremony for the representatives of the five Lowveld Action cricket teams was held at the Nelspruit Action Arena on June 17.
The teams, which were selected in five age categories – from u/10 to u/16 – will compete at the 2016 interprovincial action-cricket tournament in Edenvale, Gauteng. Eight people play in each team and there are two reserves on standby.
Eric Grimaldi, who is head of action cricket in the province as well as a coach and selector for the South African sides, congratulated the boys on their achievement and encouraged them to keep up the hard work.
“Often people will be negative and tell you that action cricket affects your batting shots in outdoor cricket. But keep it up. This is a fantastic sport and one day, you may be representing your country elsewhere in the world – and what an honour that is,” Grimaldi said.
He also emphasised the growth in popularity of the sport in the province and the country.
“You can play indoor cricket whenever and whatever the weather. If you’ve got the talent, you will get the opportunity to play. We encourage more girls to get involved too as this is a sport for everyone,” he said.
