Former Olympian to coach at Guppie Tigers

Gerhard Zandberg is about to make a big splash at Guppie Tigers Swimming Club (GTSC).

Zandberg is a former Olympian swimmer and world champion. His impressive accomplishments include 72 national titles and 27 national records.

He swam for South Africa at the Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008. Zandberg broke the African and the South African records in 100 metre backstroke at the 2008 Olympics. He broke the same two records in the 50 metre backstroke at the 2009 World Championships.

(GTC) is excited to announce that Zandberg has joined forces with them.

The GTC swimmers will utilise Zandberg’s Vikings programme, under the guidance of the GTC coaches, Nelia Pienaar and Mareli van der Merwe. Swimmers will be assessed on a six-week cycle.

Zandberg visited GTC this past weekend and the swimmers, coaches and parents learned a tremendous amount. “We are extremely excited about a new beginning for GTC,” said Pienaar.

“I am excited about the talent in this squad and I can’t wait to see how they will improve,” said Zandberg.
