Runners conquer Boulders

The unstoppable runner from Nedbank LVCC, Abednico Mashaba, who won the Skukuza Castle Lager Half-marathon earlier this year, once again showed that he is a force to be reckoned with after winning the 10-kilometre race.

Runners from across the Lowveld enjoyed breathtaking views of the Onderberg during the 10th annual Boulders 2-in-1 Road Race at Kaapmuiden last Saturday.

Teammate, Nontokozo Dlamini who was victorious at the annual Van Wettens Nite Race, claimed the womens’ title.

The route followed the Boulders Road over the mountain and through Crocodile Gorge Nature Conservancy, with several up- and downhill stretches making it quite challenging.

The 10-kilometre route started at Kaapmuiden Primary School and both races’ finishers were greeted with enthusiastic cheers from spectators at the finish line on the school sport grounds.

A total of 223 competitors participated in the 10 kilometre and 167 in the 25 kilometre, a large increase from the previous two years.

The race was hosted by Onderberg Marathon Club and The United Church Christ the King, with main sponsors RCL Foods Sugar and Milling, Laeveld Trekkers and Malalane Toyota.
