Action heats up on the pitch

Things are heating up in the Nkomazi Mayoral Sports Development Cup with teams from across the municipality fighting for a spot in the men's top 8 and the ladies top 5 teams.

Soccer fans could get their fill of the action at both the KaMhlushwa and KaMaqhekeza stadiums this past weekend and the results proved how tough some of the games were.

The Mangweni Bafanas and Driekoppies Barcelona tied with two goals each, but Barcelona managed to win with four penalty kicks against the Bafanas’ two.

Jeppes Reef Shongwe Chiefs beat Mzinti Swazi Messengers with 2-1 and Boschfontein FC won against Tonga Chelsea with 3-2.

Ngwenyeni Academy and Mananga Supersport each scored a goal and the match was decided by penalty kicks. Ngwenyeni won with five kicks to Mananga’s four.

Masibekela Brazil flattened Schoemansdal PSG with six goals to none, while Kamhlushwa City Stars won by scoring the only goal in their match against the Middelplaas Black Rovers. Phosaville United won their match with three goals against Sihlangu Junior Ace’s one.

Mawewe Seven Stars and Masibekela Patel All Stars also had to look to penalty kicks after they tied with one goal each. Masibekela won with four goals to Mawewe’s one.

The women’s teams had an action-packed line-up of matches. The Nkomazi Ladies won their match against Dludluma with 8 goals to none. Block C Chippa United won their match against Steenbok Two for Joy with a score of 4-2. Shulzendal Ladies beat Fracis Ladies 2-0 and the Schoemansdal Superstrikers proved victorious against the Naas All Stars with 2-0.

The match between KaMhlushwa City Stars and Steenbok Young Cosmos had to be settled with penalty kicks after a no goal draw. Young Cosmos won by getting the ball into the net three times compared to their opponents’ one.
