Second weekend of Selati Cup matches promises top-notch action
This weekend, soccer fans will have the opportunity to see some of the region's best teams battle it out for a spot in the next round of this year's Selati Cup.
The first matches of this year’s Selati Cup proved that anything can happen in the popular tournament and fans can expect even more excitement over the next few weeks.
Last year’s champions, Driekoppies Mashaba United, were knocked out of the running by Kamhlushwa Screamer Elven with a score of 3-1 during the weekend’s matches. Read: Good start to the epic Selati Cup
On Tuesday, four matches were played at Naas Stadium. Block C Dynamos advanced, winning with four penalty kicks to two after a 1-1 draw with Naas Academy.
Maduma Young Stars won against Block C Jnr Bucs with 5-1, Mananga Brazil beat Skhwahlane Sunny Boys with 3-1 and Mbuzini Jnr Pirates advance after a 3-2 victory against Dludluma Love & Peace.
At Kamhlushwa Stadium, SAB Driekoppies Barcelona beat Block B United with 6-2 and Kamhlushwa Real Madrid advance after a 5-0 triumph over Magogeni Try Again.
Masibekela Young Heroes won with four penalty kicks to Shongwe Chiefs’ two, after a one-goal draw and Mawewe Super Curl beat Boschfontein Rovers with four penalty kicks to three, after a two-goal draw.
On Saturday and Sunday, the next 32 teams will have their opportunity to advance to the next round.
