Epic Mercedes trophy takes to city’s fairways

Union Motors Lowveld hosted the prestigious Mercedes Trophy at Nelspruit Golf Club early in March.

The Mercedes Trophy, a world amateur golfing event hosted by 45 countries, celebrated 21 years of existence in South Africa this year.

On a hot Lowveld summer’s day 80 golfers took to the beautiful fairways.

The competition was played in an individual Stableford format and golfers competed in their respective divisions, according to their official handicaps.

An additional prize was added to this year’s competition in the format of the straightest drive which on its own added for some excitement.

The division winners and their partners will be jetting off to Mauritius to partake in the national finals from August 26 to 29.

The national winners will then represent South Africa at the Mercedes Trophy World Finals – to be played in Stuttgart, Germany.
