First round of top 64 marked by high scores

Ninety goals were scored, eight red and 43 yellow cards were issued in action-packed Selati Cup matches in the first round of the top 64 over Easter weekend.

The Selati Cup is famous for unexpected happenings and this weekend it was four chickens showing up on the pitch during the match between Schoemansdal Polar Arsenal and Ntunda Big 7. The game ended on a 3-1 win for Polar Arsenal after 90 minutes, with fans blaming the match’s low score on the chickens.

The best goals of the week were those by Elias Langa from Tonga Super Curl, Vuma Sbusiso from Ntunda Big 7 and Thokozane Mathebula from Schoemansdal Double Action.

Leading goal scorer Sanele Khanyile from Schulz Eleven Experience scored another goal to remain in the lead with seven. His team beat Langeloop Junior Pirates 6-0.

Other high-scoring teams were Block A Naughty Boys who won 5-1 against Schoemansdal Double Action, Driekoppies City Royal who were victorious against Madadeni Madiba, Kamhlushwa City Stars beat Thambokhulu Junior Aces with 6-0 and Sambo Block B won with six goals to Mangweni Wanderers’ nil.

Maduma Young Stars and Mighty Blizzard had to fight it out with penalty kicks after a one-goal draw. The Young Stars won with five kicks to four. After a zero-goal draw, KaMhlushwa Phosaville won with five penalty kicks to Steenbok Arsenal’s four.

Schulzendal Small Chiefs lodged a protest against Mhlambanyatsi Rovers for using a cup-tied player, but they were found not guilty of any misconduct. The Rovers won with 2-0 and were allowed to progress to the next round.
