Nelspruit determined to end Sasol’s winning streak
Nelspruit team for Sasol clash announced
The clash between MRU Premier League log leaders, Sasol, and second placed Nelspruit Rugby Club on Saturday promises to be a thriller.
After Sasol thrashed Nelspruit 63-6 a month ago, it is not revenge that is on Nelspruit’s mind. The home team must win, score four tries and deny Sasol any bonus points, to move up to first place on the log.
A victory would benefit Nelspruit in the knockout stages, setting up a probable home semi-final and final.
Since that fateful autumn day at Secunda Stadium, Nelspruit have defeated Middelburg (away), White River (home) and Ferros (away).
The team shows seven changes from the one which lost to Sasol a month ago.
Coach, Freek Carelese is confident that the team can beat Sasol.
“We must be focused, disciplined and force errors,” said Carelese.
Defence will be vital. “We cannot allow Sasol to break through the midfield. First-time tackling must be spot on,” he said.
According to the coach, fitness could be the deciding factor. “Sasol are well-trained and very fit. But we have been working hard and the players have been pushing their bodies to their limit on the training field. We are ready.”
Nelspruit have an excellent loose trio and adventurous half backs. If they are solid in the set pieces, retain possession and win their fair number of turn-overs, then the backline will provide Sasol with their sternest defensive test this season.
The action on the pitch at Nelspruit Rugby Club on Saturday June 3 promises to be scintillating.
The second teams will play at 14:00 and the first teams kick-off at 15:30. Families are encouraged to come and support the home team. Food and beverages will be on sale.
