Matshosola wins an epic battle
Riverside Park, in association with Lowveld Canoe Club, hosted yet another successful 10-kilometre Take a Step for Children charity road race this weekend.
The race, which started and ended at Riverside Mall, followed a scenic route through the Lowveld Botanical Gardens and the Riverside Precinct.
Though the race merely served as as training for upcoming races, the front runners gave it their all to try to beat their personal bests in the 10-kilometre category.
Nedbank LVCC runner, Motlalepula Matshosola finished ahead of Puma athlete, Folavia Sehohle (31:00), in an astounding time of 30:25.
Hot on their heels was Born to Win’s Abednico Mashaba, in a time of 31:13.
The youngster from Nkomazi, Nomvula Sithole, flew through the route like greased lighting and managed to finish the women’s 10 kilometres in 42:03, more than two minutes ahead of Nedbank runner, Thandeka Mnisi.
Allison Hay was awarded third place after finishing in 44:31.
The first male veteran to cross the finish line was Nthuthuko Maseko and the first female, Marinda Venter.
Linda de Bruyn and Philip van Rooyen were the first masters to finish and the grand masters who took the spoils were Enos Ndimane and Estelle Bullen.
Nkomazi runners, Thabiso Mashele and Nomvula Sithole took the first places among the juniors.
Folavia, Mashaba, Abednico, Nthuthuko and Nontokoza Dlamini have been selected to represent Mpumalanga at the South African 21-kilometre Championships in Port Elizabeth on June 24.
