Bester claims one-day Innibos MTB race
The second annual Innibos one-day mountain bike (MTB) race held at Penryn College on Saturday attracted riders of all ages in the 15-, 30- and 50-kilometre distances.
Veteran cyclist, Burger Bester, claimed first spot in the 50-kilometre race with a time of 01:44:41, just over 10 minutes ahead of his closest competitor, Danie du Toit. Youth, Tiaan van Pletzen crossed the finish line in 01:56:31 to grab third place on the podium. Top female rider, Johlene Faul, finished her race in 02:13:25.
In the 30-kilometre race, the young Wian Steyn took home first prize in a time of 01:19:12, with Dewald Beetge and Gabriel van Biljon taking second and third place. The overall female winner was not far behind the men, finishing her race in 01:39:28, just a few minutes after Van Biljon.
The 15-kilometre race was dominated by the Pelser brothers, with nipper rider Lohan finishing first in a flashy 45 minutes, and Jowan taking the third spot in 52:34. Morne Klopper grabbed the second spot.
The Innibos one-day MTB race is held as part of the Innibos Cycle Festival and Innibos National Arts Festival. The route runs through farmland and bushveld and includes single tracks, bridges and Jeep tracks.
