Curro to play in their first finals ever

This Saturday the u/14 rugby team of Curro Nelspruit will play their biggest match to date, against Hoërskool Hoogenhout. This is the first time any Curro school will play in a Virsekerbeker medium schools final.

It has been a long season for the team with the first friendly matches having been played in February.

They are undefeated in the league, but anything can happen in a final. Now it is up to the boys to implement the game plan and stick to the systems.

“In terms of the outcome, the team that overcomes the mental aspect of the final and sticks to their game plan, will be victorious. To get to the final, both teams have played good rugby and Curro looks forward to the challenge of playing away against Hoogenhout,” said Graeme Stewart of Curro.

Title sponsor Land Rover Nelspruit has been a large part of the boys’ success.

“As Land Rover is a performance and lifestyle brand with the motto ‘Above and beyond’ we feel that this is exactly what the Curro boys have done and it is a testament to their coaching staff and teamwork” said dealer principal Christo Leeuwner.

Curro’s captain, Udo Cilliers said the team have worked hard this season and they are looking forward to the final. He thanked the parents and coaches for their support during the season.

A stand out statistic for Curro is that during the league, the Curro team scored a total of 643 points and only conceded 20, with centres Emmanuel Bhiya and Ashley Mashigo leading the scoring with 33 and 30 tries respectively.
