Budding hockey players compete at annual festival
Dozens of eager young hockey players swarmed the sports fields to chase goals during Riverview Prep School's mini-hockey festival last Saturday.
Thirteen schools from the Lowveld, including Laerskool Malelane and Komatipoort Akademie participated in the friendly annual hockey tournament at Riverview Prep School last Saturday morning.

Each year it serves as a great way for the u/7, u/8 and u/9 boys and girls to get used to the competitive environment of matches, while getting a little help from their coaches and the referees, and sharpening their skills.

Each school brought their own referees, but Riverview Prep also used upcoming umpires like high school learners.
Friends and familty supported the players, loudly encouraging them from the sidelines, and paramedics stood by to soothe any bruises and injuries that resulted from overeager players and slow reflexes.

Two of Riverview Prep’s teams managed to remain undefeated. The u/7 boys won against Laerskool Laeveld 1 with a score of 5-0, Curro Nelspruit 1 with 3-1, Curro Nelspruit 2 with 8-0 and Laeveld 2 with 5-0.
The u/7 girls won their matches against Komatipoort Akademie with 3-2, Laerskool Bergland 2 with 5-0 and Laerskool Bergland 1 with 4-2.
