Team Ben Enslin takes first place
The Caltex Lawn Bowls Tournament was played White River Bowling Club over the weekend of September 9 and 10, in extremely warm conditions.
The idea was to give Mpumalanga players a serious workout against the local bowlers, and so it turned out.
Play started at 09:00 on Saturday morning, with two full greens of provincial bowlers from all over Mpumalanga pitting their wits and skills against the men and women from most of the Lowveld clubs.

Three matches of 15 ends were played on the Saturday, divided into three sets of five ends each. This gave everyone a chance of scoring some points.
Play continued right up to 17:45 on some extremely challenging rinks.
Those who could still stand after their exertions were treated to a braai at the clubhouse.
Next morning players were back on the greens at 08:00 to contest two more matches of 15 ends each.
Again it was hot, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the challenges which they were faced with.

And then it was all over. It was time to retire to the cool of the clubhouse for some much needed refreshments and a wonderfully tasty lunch, whilst the results were calculated.
Lucky numbers were drawn and Merle Joubert from White River Club was the surprised recipient of R1 000.
The team of Ben Enslin took first place and won R4 000.
