Mthethwa, Ndlovu race to victory

LVCC Nelspruit's Professa Mthethwa (23) snatched the Build it God's Window, presented by Legogote Villagers, 21-kilometre title on Saturday with a time of 1:16:23 and an average speed of 16,8 kilometres per hour.

At the halfway point that marks the half-marathon, Mthethwa, who was also the fastest runner of the local clubs at the 86-kilometre Comrades Marathon up-run, had a time of 41 minutes.

One of the Lowveld’s most promising athletes, Born2Win’s Thulani Lekhuleni and Freedom Makhubela (Run Walk 4 Life), ran together most of the way, but at the 13-kilometre mark, Thulani opened a gap of more than one minute ahead of Makhubela.

Thulani took second place with a time of 1:17:54, with Makhubela rounding off the podium with a time of 1:20:25.

LVCC’s Ntuthuko Maseko, who was the defending champion, did not compete on Saturday. His winning time was 1:14:22.

As expected, the 10-kilometre race was a battle between this years’ Sudwala Screaming Monster champion, RW4L’s Prince Ndlovu, and Ronny Mabotga (SAPS).

Manda Gomez (LVCC), who conquered her first-ever Comrades in a time of 9:20:52, the fastest woman of the local clubs, claimed the 10-kilometre title with a time of 47:40.
