Local gymnasts excel at SAs
The local gymnasts performed well, with Amoré Gerber being invited to the prestigious Region 5 Competition in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
Twelve gymnasts from Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy (NGA) recently participated at the South African Gym Games.
The week-long event was hosted at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne from October 1 to 8. It is the toughest meet of the year, in which just over 1 000 of South Africa’s top gymnasts compete for national titles, according to NGA head coach and owner Maré Putter.

Amoré Gerber brought home two apparatus medals and was invited to the prestigious Region 5 Competition in Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Should she be able to raise sufficient funds, she will be the only women’s artistic-gymnastics gymnast representing Mpumalanga, said Putter.
Hennie Koen also fared well in the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics discipline. The discipline has firm roots in ancient Greek culture and scholars believe the art was perfected by the Spartans.

Male gymnasts have to be physically powerful, flexible, balanced and have a natural ability to perform while under pressure.

There are six apparatus events that have to be skilfully mastered in the quest to becoming a provident provincial gymnast.
Mbombela’s gymnasts delivered outstanding performances and achieved commendable results.
NGA members showed discipline and noticeably performed quality gymnastic routines, according to Putter.
