Eight gold medals for Brooklyn
Uniswim Nelspruit's Brooklyn Croxon (14) had a sizzling start to the new season going on to take the senior victrix ludorum trophy at the Mpumalanga Short Course Winter Championships at Curro Nelspruit over the weekend.
Brooklyn, who over the holidays attended a national training camp at Kings Park Pool in Durban, cruised to victory in all of her items.
As part of her eight-gold haul, her first place in the 200-metre individual medley was an event to remember as she sliced five seconds off her time to finish in 2:28,58.
She clocked 4:31,83 in the 400-metre freestyle event and 34,89 seconds in the 50-metre breaststroke.
In the 100-metre freestyle she finished with a time of 59,73, and bagged her fifth gold in the 200-metre breaststroke in 2:45,01.
Her sixth first place was in the 50-metre free with a time of 28,11, her seventh in the 100-metre breast (1:15,80) and her last in the 200-metre frees with a dominating time of 2:08,04.
Emma Beyers (12) and Gregory Braithwaite (13), both of Uniswim, were presented with the junior victrix and senior victor ludorum trophies respectively.
The 12-year-old achieved one silver, four bronze and five gold medals. Her teammate, Gregory got two first places, two silver medals, one bronze medal and a fourth-place-finish.
Uniswim Nelspruit emerged as the winner of the winter champs with 2 280 points, followed by Curro Swimming Academy with 2 100, Midwit Uniswim with 1 778,5 and Swim Lab Swimming Club in fourth place on 1 052.
