Nolwazi is ranked 18th in the world
Lowveld High School's Nolwazi Mashaba is one of the province's most decorated athletes.
The 16-year-old, who is currently placed 18th in the world for u/18 triple jump, was named LHS Sportswoman of the Year.
The youngster has established a new personal best distance of the season in the triple-jump pit at the CAA Southern Region u/20 Youth and u/18 Junior Championships at Boksburg Athletics Stadium earlier this year.
Her effort of 12,93 metres earned her the silver medal. She almost beat current South African champion, Gontse Morake.
Nolwazi rewrote the history books at the Mediclinic Interhigh when she shattered two records that have survived many attempts over the years. She set a new u/19 triple-jump record, then flew through the air and achieved what no one could in 33 years when she improved a 1985 long-jump record of 5,55 metres to 5,59 metres.
At the ASA Youth and Junior Championships in Paarl, she came second in triple jump and third in long jump.
The sportsman of the year award was presented to Qhama Sinkila.
He has worked very hard to join the school’s first rugby team. He has performed in such a way that he was selected to play for the Pumas U/18 Academy Week during the July school holidays.
Qhama played for the school’s sevens rugby team and he represented his province at the national sevens tournament in Potchefstroom.
