Locals help give Malelane Golf Club a boost at new annual golf day

Local players supported the first annual Duck 'n Dive Golf Day last weekend, which aimed to raise interest in the club and boost member numbers.

A full field of 68 players vied for first place at the first Duck ‘n Dive Golf Day at Malelane Golf Club last Saturday.

Players competed in an individual Stableford format and several community members, ranging from young and old, amateurs and veteran golfers, were seen on the field.

On arrival they received a goody bag and most were seen playing with the new Duck ‘n Dive caps they found inside.

Results:

• First: David Chance with 43 points

• Second: Ben van der Westhuizen with 41 points

• Third: Roelf Fritz with 40 points

• Fourth: Sarel Pretorius with 40 points.

Prizes ranged from 100 free beers, a bar fridge and ice buckets to bottles of rum, fuel vouchers and drills.

The aim of the event was to get local golfers interested in the club and help raise their membership and in turn to bolster up funds to maintain the beautiful course.

According to Gavin Jones of Duck ‘n Dive, this is the first of many to come, as they hope to help revive the club’s popularity among the whole community, not just golfers.
