Baberton’s defense trips up Impalas in first league match

The Impala Rugby Club managed to get a penalty kick past Barberton Rugby Club’s nearly impenetrable defence during the first round of Phakisa Mayor’s Reserve League in Komatipoort last Saturday.

Despite players’ determination and fans’ passionate encouragement, the Impalas lost to Barberton with a score of 3-21 in their first Phakisa Mayor’s Reserve League match last Saturday.

The match started off on a high tempo, with the Impalas staying close to Barberton’s try line. However, a few fumbles prevented them from scoring twice.

Barberton managed to break free and scored their first try and successful conversion.

Brennon Jordaan successfully sent a penalty kick over the goalposts for the Impalas first, and last, points of the match.

The Impalas could not manage to capitalise on a chance to score and Barberton got their second try and successful conversion.

During the second half, Barberton’s defense remained solid. The Impalas lost a player due to a red card for disciplinary reasons, and was under even greater pressure to keep Barberton from the try line.

Barberton scored their third try for a final score of 3-21. Despite the Impalas’ efforts to even the score a little more, and Barberton’s hopes for another try to get a bonus point, neither managed to score in the last few minutes of the game.
