Young players compete on the course

The aim is to promote the game, get juniors to play and also for the love of the sport.

Young golfers competed during the Mpumalanga Junior Foundation Lowveld Open Tournament on Sunday at Mbombela Golf Club. This event was hosted by Mpumalanga Junior Golf Foundation.

It is a development of junior golf and they are part of the Mpumalanga Golf Union.

Jurie Grobler, the vice-president of Mpumalanga Golf Juniors (Lowveld) said the Mpumalanga Junior Golf Foundation is open to any juniors in the province.

“The tournament is open for golfers from the age of six to 18. Once they turn 19 they can no longer play in these junior tournaments.

“There are different divisions, namely the A and B division which comprises the better players. A is from zero up to nine handicap, B is 10 up to 18. C division is from 18 handicap and higher.

“In the D division the juniors do not have official handicap as they probably are not a member of a golf club yet. The aim is to get the D division to join a club, to get a handicap,”said Grobler.
