Impalas overwhelm Black Cats during Onderberg derby

The Impalas once again logged a Phakisa Mayor’s Reserve League victory on Saturday afternoon, this time against fellow Nkomazi team the KaMhlushwa Black Cats.

The Impalas continued their winning streak, when they steamrolled the Black Cats for a 59-5 victory during a league match in Komatipoort on Saturday.

The teams kept each other at bay for the first twenty minutes of the match, before Komati scored their first converted try.

Barely five minutes later, the Impalas scored again and with a great kick from Cashwell Khoza, it was converted.

Cashwell Khoza uses his speed to try and outrun his opponent.

The Black Cats couldn’t seem to keep up with Impalas, as the home team scored two more converted tries before half time for a score of 28-0.

The Impalas increased their lead just a few minutes into the second half, with another converted try. Minutes later, they followed it up with another try.

Eddie Scholtz was one of the Impalas’ try scorers.

The home team’s players utilized their speed to score two more tries before the Black Cats’ efforts paid off. They fought their way to the try line to put their first five points on the scoreboard.

One of the Impalas was injured and the team elected to continue play with only fourteen men on the field.

Another try before the final whistle earned them a 59-5 victory and more points on the log.

The Impalas dominated the scrums and line-outs and the team’s unity and discipline contributed to their excellent victory.

The players of the match were Jaco Malan and Cashwell Khoza.

The Impalas hope to continue their winning streak when they face the Pumbas from Hoedspruit in Komatipoort on Saturday afternoon at 15:30. At the same time Malelane and the Ratels of Lydenburg will be clashing at the Malelane Rugby Club. The Black Cats will be heading to Barberton for their next matchup.
