Golf players raise funds for local schools

The Mosaïek Stropieland Golf Day was a roaring success.

The event was held at Mbombela Golf Club on Thursday. The main sponsor was Skycastle Investments which sponsored the green fees.

Stropieland Kleuterskool and Mosaïek Kleuters will benefit from the funds raised and use it according to their needs.

The theme was “back to school” and golfers enjoyed the fun activities. Golfers had the opportunity to experience using a life-size slingshot.

Canary Walk Mall brought a man-sized slingshot and everyone had a great time while raising funds for the two schools.

Carien Craig from Canary Walk Mall said the initiative was well supported. She said they managed to raise R41 000 for each school as well as an air con for Stropieland.

“There were 29 fourballs that took part. All 18 holes were sponsored, one hole for each of the schools,” she explained.

The format of the day was better ball stableford, one score to count, scramble drive.
Winners were Maruis Nel and Justin van Staden with a score of 52.

Craig said they sold a fun package to the golfers for R150. It included one mulligan, one attempt to hit the ball further than a pro and one attempt to shoot the ball from a man-sized slingshot.

“The schools are very grateful to Kameeldrift Fresh Meats, which sponsored the slingshot as
well as all the meat for the day,” she said.

Canary Walk Mall is an expanding shopping mall in Mbombela’s CBD, offering a variety of anchor tenants, easy access, ample parking and a safe shopping experience.
