Lowveld masters bowlers off to Ermelo

All eight bowlers will represent Lowveld in the Mpumalanga Masters competition

Elinor Storkey (LVCC) and Francois Hanekom (White River) are the new Lowveld Masters Singles title holders in the open age group.

 

 

The masters competition is a prestigious bowls tourney where the top 12 men and ladies bowlers from the open and veteran age groups in the Lowveld Zone are invited to compete.

The tournament is a two-day event in which the bowlers compete in a round robin format initially, with the group winners contesting the final.

The men’s and ladies’ open divisions were contested at LVCC over the past weekend.

In the men’s open divison, Hanekom beat Hardus Korf (Ngodwana) 21-19 in a tightly contested final. Charl van der Ham (Barberton) defeated Dean Paiva (White River) to win the third and fourth place play-off.

 

 

In the ladies’ open final, Elinor Storkey had a comfortable win over Madaleine de Klerk (LVCC) while Miranda Paiva (White River) defeated Annemarie van der Ham (Barberton) in the play-off for third position.

All eight bowlers will represent Lowveld in the Mpumalanga Masters competition, to be held in Ermelo at the end of July. A similar competition will be held at Nelspruit Bowling Club from July 13 to 14 to determine the eight veteran Lowveld bowlers to join their open counterparts at the Mpumalanga Masters.
