Local gymnasts qualify for second trials

The Mpumalanga level 4 to 7 gymnasts held their first Mpumalanga trials in Kempton Park two weeks ago.

Gymnasts from Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy (NGA) qualified for the second trials at the academy last weekend.

At the first trials, NGA scooped five overall first places, four overall second places and a number of apparatus medals, according to the academy’s head coach and director, Maré Putter.

In addition to this achievement, 14 girls from the academy qualified to receive their full Mpumalanga colours and will represent the province at the South African Gym Games, which will be held at the University of Cape Town from September 26 to the 28th.

Putter said, “For each level of participation, the gymnasts have to score a certain average to qualify for the SAs. These gymnasts worked very hard and I know they can do well at SA Gym Games if they keep up the hard work.”
