White River Bowling Club dominate Lowveld Pairs

Through the month of August, Lowveld bowlers have been competing for the Lowveld Pairs trophy.

Eighteen ladies’ and 22 men’s teams entered and, after four days of competitive bowls, White River Bowling Club proved the dominant club.

In the ladies section the White River team of Adri Lockhurst and Stella Nel won a tight final 22-21 against Lettie Ambrosius (White River) and Joey Bam (Barberton) to lift the trophy. Debbie Day and Elinor Storkey (LVCC) proved too strong for the White River pair of Marietjie Willers and Carol Frankle and took third place.

The men’s final proved a very tight affair, with quality bowls from all four competitors. A strong finish from Francois Hanekom and Denis Paiva (White River) proved too much for Ben Enslin and Quentin Wilson (Nelspruit), winning the final by 23 shots to 18.

Sabie Bowling Club members, Alfred Mielacher and Thomas de Villiers, won third place by beating Joao Richards and Bertus le Roux (Nelspruit) 21-19.
The top three teams will compete in the Mpumalanga Pairs competition in eMalahleni on September 14
and 15.
