Phakisa Group Chairman, Johan Pretorius and Pumas CEO, Pieter Burger, on Friday formally announced the title sponsorship of the Pumas for 2020.

The Pumas will now officially be known as the Phakisa Pumas. “The Phakisa Group has supported the Pumas over the past few years and made the decision to become the title sponsor in 2020, as both entities share the same core values and they have earned our respect for their style of rugby and leadership.

“We are blessed to have a Blue Chip Company like the Phakisa Group as a title sponsor and partner and as we have worked closely together over the past few years, with Phakisa’s support of the amateur section, this decision to sponsor the professional team will ensure that the partnership moves from strength to strength,” said Burger.

“I remember Jimmy Stonehouse walking into my office looking for help. Somehow I just knew there was something special about Jimmy and his team. I am now glad to say that the whole Phakisa family are behind the Pumas. We even wear our Pumas shirts on Fridays and has almost become more popular than the Springbok jerseys,” he said and added that he is a simple man with a humble heart, who wants to help.

He also shared some wisdom with the players present at the announcement. “Big dreams have to start somewhere. This is a vehicle to do so with integrity. Without integrity, your priorities aren’t right. God must be number one. Put your family second and then the rugby. I guarantee you, from humble beginnings, God will lift you. I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of this special team. You have been unfortunate this season, but we are on your side.
