First on the lineup is National Recreational Day on Friday, October 4 at Mbombela Stadium at 08:00. It will be followed by Big Walk on Sunday, October 6 at the same venue at 06:00.
The National Recreation Day and Big walk are platforms developed by government to encourage the public to live a healthy lifestyle and also show it does not cost a fortune to achieve it. “The National Recreation Day and Big Walk are annual events held on the first Friday and Sunday of October, respectively,” explains the department’s Sibongile Nkosi.
This year National Recreation Day will see the people participating in various recreational activities such as aerobics and indigenous games. On the other hand, Big Walk consists of two fun walks, a five-kilometre and a 10-kilometre both will start and finish at Mbombela Stadium. Registration is free and it will be done at the stadium from 05:00. The first 500 participants will receive a free t-shirt. On top of keeping South Africans fit and healthy, these events are vehicles to promote social cohesion.
