SuperSport United edge out Kaizer Chiefs

The Chiefs' fans were silenced after SuperSport's second goal

Third placed SuperSport United showed guts and fighting spirit to defeat log leaders Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 tonight.

23 000 fans watched the thrilling Absa PSL match at Mbombela Stadium.

Chiefs had more possession and most of the play was in United half of the field

SuperSport made better use of their limited opportunities with Bradley Grobler and substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza scoring goals

Grobler scored off a header from a cross kick from Teboho Mokoena in the eighth minute with SuperSport’s first attack in the 18-yard box of Chiefs.

The home team held a 1-0 half-time lead.

In the third minute of the second half Chiefs’ defender Daniel Cardoso scored from the penalty spot after a Clayton Daniels hand ball.

But supersub Gabuza came on to score the winning goal. He received a pinpoint-perfect cross from Kudakwashe Mahachi and slotted it past Daniel Akpeyi on 61 minutes

Chiefs attacked with venom to try and claw their was back but the United defence held.

Ronwan Williams was superb in goal for the 90 minutes and United were also helped by Chiefs’ lack of accuracy with shots on goal.

It was a memorable night at Mbombela Stadium with SuperSport keeping their hopes alive for the Premiership title but Chiefs remaining top of the log.
