SuperSport United topples Kaizer chiefs
SuperSport United closed the gap on log leaders Kaizer Chiefs to eight points with a hard-fought win over Amakhosi on Saturday night.
Third-placed SuperSport United showed guts and fighting spirit in the 2-1 victory.
Chiefs are on 35 log points and Mamelodi Sundowns on 31 after 15 games. United are in third place with 27 points after 16 matches.
A total of 23 000 fans watched the thrilling Absa PSL match at Mbombela Stadium.
Chiefs had more possession and most of the play was in United half of the field.
SuperSport made better use of their limited opportunities with Bradley Grobler and substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza scoring goals.
Grobler scored off a header from a cross kick from Teboho Mokoena in the eighth minute with SuperSport’s first attack in the 18-yard box of Chiefs.

The home team held a 1-0 half-time lead.
In the third minute of the second half, Chiefs’ defender Daniel Cardoso scored from the penalty spot after a Clayton Daniels hand ball.
But supersub Gabuza came on to score the winning goal. He received a pinpoint-perfect cross from Kudakwashe Mahachi and slotted it past Daniel Akpeyi on 61 minutes.
Chiefs attacked with venom to try and claw their way back, but the United defence held.
Ronwen Williams was brilliant in goal for the 90 minutes and United were also helped by Chiefs’ lack of accuracy with shots on goal.
Daniels, despite earning a yellow card for dissent and conceding the penalty, played with his heart on his sleeve. He was superb on defence.
Dean Furman also had one of his best matches of the season.
SuperSport defender, Siya Nhlapo, was the Absa Man of the Match.
It was a memorable night at Mbombela Stadium with United keeping their hopes alive for the premiership title, but Chiefs remaining top of the log.
