Another Malan brother to face England

Janneman is an aggressive batsman who regularly finds the boundaries

The youngest Malan brother, Janneman (23), has been selected for the 15-man Proteas ODI squad for the three-match series against England.

The squad was announced yesterday.

The Cape Cobras and Cape Town Blitz player is an aggressive batsman who can open or come in in the top order.

His oldest brother, Pieter, has played in the second and third Test matches against England and should open the batting again for South Africa in the match starting at The Wanderers on Friday.

The middle brother, André, is also a professional cricketer. All three were born in Mbombela.

Janneman was in the SA T20 team that played two matches against Pakistan in February 2019.

He scored 33 runs in the first match and 2 in the second, at a strike rate of 95.

Janneman has an excellent record in domestic limited overs cricket. He has played 44 matches and scored 1 813 runs at an average of 45, and a strike rate of 87. He boasts a highest score of 170 not out.

Janneman moved to Pretoria with his family when he was ten years old. But this not before he played for Laerskool Bergland’s u/11 team. His teammates and opponents were a grade higher than him. He was good enough to be chosen for the Mpumalanga u/11 team that year.

The first ODI is on Tuesday February 4 at Newlands in Cape Town.
