Nelspruit I on fire at Makiti 7s
In three of their six matches Nelspruit I kept their opponents scoreless
Nelspruit Rugby Club I ran riot against Amigos in the final of the 2020 Maroela Makiti 7s on Saturday.
Nelspruit ran in five tries, of which two were converted for a 31-0 victory on a sweltering Lowveld summer’s day.
Clinton Coetzee scored twice and Jos de Jager, Handré van Graan and Janrico Vermeulen touched down once each.
Amigos put up a spirited fight but could not cope with the pace and slick passing of the Nelspruit players.
Amigos were brilliant in the cup semi-final, beating defending champions White River 21-7.
In their semi, Nelspruit I beat Nelspruit II, 43-0.

What made Nelspruit I’s championship-winning effort remarkable was the fact that they did not concede a try in their semi-final or the final. Their defence was well organised and their opponents battled to find the gaps.
In the third/fourth place play-off, White River destroyed Nelspruit II 54-5.
Barberton won the fifth/sixth place play-off match 35-14 against Hazyview.

Twenty pool matches and eight play-off games ensured non-stop action for the hundreds of supporters who came to cheer for their teams from 08:00 to 17:30.
The tournament was a huge success and was held at Mbombela Stadium’s A field for the first time.
The 10 teams set up camp on the perimeter of the field, and an extremely festive atmosphere prevailed.
