The future of athletics is bright for Nelspruit Primary
Nelspruit Primary School showed their athletic prowess at the Interprimary in Barberton on Saturday.

The young athletes were pitted against their counterparts from Barberton Primary School, Lydenburg, Bergland, Laeveld, White River and Laerskool Nelspruit.
The competitive spirit ran high and the Nelspruit Primary athletes showed that they were no shrinking violets by their achievements in the track and field events.
The scorching sun did not deter the participating athletes from delivering outstanding performances throughout the day.

The school won four gold, five silver and 15 bronze medals and on the day produced noteworthy performances from the young athletes.
A highlight for the school was undoubtedly Katleho Mofokeng’s performance on the field. Katleho set a new high jump record in the boys u/12 category, breaking a 27-year old record of 1,49 metres with a new record of 1,50 metres.

The relay team also brought their A game, snatching gold in the boys u/8, u/10 and u/12 4×80-metre relay races. These are usually the most anticipated races of the day and drew loud applause from the stands as the athletes battled it out, gaining the lead and losing it at the bend before recomposing themselves and handing the baton over to claim victory on the last straight.

All in all, the athletics meeting showcased a number of future talents to be nurtured and honed.
