INTERLAER: Laeveld show off their track and field superstars

Owethu Shongwe of Laerskool Laeveld raced to the rescue to hold his school’s name high when he came first in the u/8 60-metre sprints in 09,40.

This secured him the title of both best track athlete and best overall achievement for the day. He also came third in the 80-metre sprint with a time of 12,72.

To add to their tally, Banele Sithole narrowly broke the record for the boys u/11 100-metre sprint with 13,55 – scoring 604 for his school. Banele also came first in the 80-metre sprint, with a time of 11,02 and collecting 591 points. In the boys u/12 long jump, Tye Habib bagged first place with a distance of 4,67 metres.

His closest competitor was Laerskool Nelspruit’s star athlete Lizwe Nkumane, with a mere two centimetres separating the two.

Adding one more gold medal to the school’s collection was Xiluva Khosa in the girls
u/10 1 200 metres in 04:29,65.
