Rob Ferreira’s Jakobus breaks three records

Hoërskool Nelspruit retained their champions' title

Hoërskool Nelspruit dominated the pool and won the Interhigh Schools Gala for the fourth consecutive year last Wednesday.

Jakobus Terblanche of Hoërskool Rob Ferreira smashed three records at the event.

The gala was hosted by NHS at Van Riebeeck Park Swimming Pool.

Terblanche started his gold medal record-breaking rampage with the boys’ u/19 50-metre backstroke, winning in a time of 28,94 seconds. He grabbed his second gold in the 50-metre breaststroke, stopping the clock on 31,85. His third record was in the 100-metre breaststroke in a time of 1:11,14.

Jakobus’ performances earned him the u/19 victor ludorum and best individual boy trophies.

Nelspruit finished the gala on 1 109 points, well ahead of second placed Uplands College on 716 points.

Jodi Dos Santos of NHS was also in fine form, adding two new times to the record book. She won the girls’ u/15 100-metre butterfly in 1:10,83 and the u/14 50-metre butterfly in 31,12.

She was awarded the u/14 victrix ludorum trophy.

Nelspruit’s Nicci Viljoen also set two records, in the girls’ u/17 50-metre backstroke in 33,90 and the 50-metre freestyle in 29,17.
