Covid-19 uncertainty clouds Phakisa Pumas/Vodacom Bulls clash

Players and team management were cautioned to practice strict compliance measures to minimise the risk of infection.

After the rugby match between the Emirates Lions and Phakisa Pumas was postponed, uncertainty reigns as Covid-19 tests will determine whether or not the latter will play this weekend.

Their match against the Vodacom Bulls, that have already won the Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked competition, was postponed from Friday at 20:00 to Saturday at 14:00, pending the results of the tests that were conducted this morning.

This was the second match that fell to Covid-19.

Players and team management were cautioned to practice strict compliance measures to minimise the risk of infection, following the cancellation of a third Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked match on Tuesday.

The Cell C Sharks’ match against the DHL Stormers in Durban on Saturday was cancelled following positive tests among the Cell C Sharks’ tight-head props.

This followed the cancellation of the Emirates Lions’ matches against the Toyota Cheetahs and Phakisa Pumas.
According to Jurie Roux, SA Rugby CEO, the Pumas’ match against the Vodacom Bulls was rescheduled due to player welfare reasons. The kick-off time is yet to be confirmed.

“The Phakisa Pumas squad, which returned several positive tests last week, will be re-tested today. The results will be known on Friday, allowing time for a training session after ten days in isolation before meeting the Vodacom Bulls on Saturday,” Roux said.
The team has therefore not yet been finalised, and will be published on www.lowvelder.co.za if and when it becomes available.
