Swimmers of the province’s clubs jumped back in the pool for the first age group gala of the year on Friday and Saturday at Van Riebeeck Park.

The event (age group 5) saw swimmers battle to improve their own times, with the level 2 and 3 galas fixed in their scopes, as well as the junior and senior nationals at a date and time yet to be announced.

Due to Covid protocols, the juniors and seniors were divided into two groups. The former took to the pool first on both days, followed by the seniors. Around 130 swimmers took part. Local clubs CSA, White River, Uniswim, Guppies, Rob Ferreira, MidWit and Estralita, were well represented at the event.

This weekend, swimming will return to the same pool with the same goal in mind. On Sunday, swimmers will head to Longmere Dam for the first Open Water Swim of the year.
