The province’s top swimmers from the Lowveld and the Highveld competed in the Mpumalanga Swimming Age Group 6 Gala at Van Riebeeck Park on Friday and Saturday.

The competitors swam in mixed junior or senior races, each one attempting to better his or her own personal best times. Miela Banza of Uniswim was in a class of her own, claiming first place in the mixed 12 and under 50-metres breaststroke in 40,55 seconds.

She finished first in the 200-metre breaststroke in 03:04,68. The 100-metre breaststroke was also hers in 01:25,83. Rossouw Janson clocked 02:20,64 in the mixed 13 and over butterfly. In the individual medley, he finished first in 02:30,25. Rossouw also shone in the 100-metre butterfly, freezing the stopwatch on 01:02,44.
