Barberton XCM ready to welcome back cyclists
After postponing the race from January 30 to May 8, the Rotary Club of Barberton is optimistic that it will welcome more riders to the race.
What a rocky start to 2021. After postponing the race from January 30 to May 8, the Rotary Club of Barberton is optimistic that it will welcome more riders to the race – especially considering that they have had more time to train. “We hope you used it wisely,” said Chris Rippon, president of the Rotary Club of Barberton.
With races slowly starting, riders are getting back into the swing of things, mostly from their Zwift rides, back onto the road. “We are excited to announce that our routes will expose riders to various terrain types, from water crossings to single track, from the Greenstone Wildlife Estate to some of the richest gold mines in the world, through Sappi plantations to thousands of macadamia trees, from rocky ascents to fast descents – there is something for every preference. If you still have some breath left at the top of the mountain, the incredible scenery will be sure to take the rest of your breath away. Cyclists will cycle on routes which are not open to the public, through a Unesco World Heritage Site and the Mountainlands Nature Reserve. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, a challenging, beautiful and diverse route, then the Barberton XCM is for you.”

The organisers, the Rotary Club of Barberton, expressed their appreciation for all the support and understanding after having to postpone the race which was not an easy decision.
“We hereby humbly request your support, to enter the race and to share the event as far and wide as possible. The mountain bike calendar in SA is extremely busy, with the postponement of races, which cause dates to clash – which is why, we now, more than ever need every entry we can get. Without support from riders and sponsors, the event cannot be a success – and with this being the 25th race, it really is a milestone for all,” the organisers said.
You still have time to exercise and get fit and with lower temperatures expected in May, you already have an advantage, and one less excuse.
